Out just in time to be my Christmas present to you all!

V1
Every word that you say is his holy truth
Every step that you make provides him more proof
Telling you now, he will bleed you bone dry
That boy will make you wanna die
C
Oh yvaine yvaine
When he thinks of you everyday
Yvaine yvaine
You're such a sore on the brain
Oh yvaine yvaine
You're such a pretty shame
That you let it all go to waste
On something so Mundane
Oh to my disdain
V2
Sugary words work like glue in ensnareing you
Working the trap to ensure that you come right back
Telling you girl, he is not as sweet as pie
That boy will make you wanna cry
C
Oh Yvaine yvaine
Someday he will drive you insane
Yvaine yvaine
You'll ask why did you remain
Oh yvaine yvaine
It would be fair to complain
That you let it all go to waste
On someone so Mundane
Not that you're to blame
V3
Evasive lines make you think he's mysterious
Making himself a puzzle for you to solve
Telling you now, what you feel is just the high
That boy will make you ask him why
C
Oh yvaine yvaine
When he thinks of you everyday
Yvaine yvaine
You're such a sore on the brain
Oh yvaine yvaine
You're such a pretty shame
That you let it all go to waste
On something so Mundane
Oh to my disdain
Oh Yvaine
He only causes pain

Storytelling in Song
I started writing Yvaine in May 2023 (first year of uni) in an attempt to write a complete rock album. I did complete this project over the course of 4 months (though of course full production may take years), the album is all primarily rock, with some jazz or country influences; I hope that someday you will be able to hear it in complete!
The process for this song was slightly different from the ones I’ve posted about previously. I wrote the initial draft of this song on my own using loops and MIDI, this meant that I was able to write the song much quicker, but also didn’t have the feedback and expertise in producing of Will Jackson. When I came home that summer I began working on it with Will who helped me develop it into the song it is today. We ended up finishing it this past summer, making a song that I wrote in a couple of days take about a year to actually complete!
With this song I wanted to tell a story (this is not based on me or anyone else that I know). I wrote it as a sort of ‘it-girl’ song, I picked out several names that I liked and considered what would rhyme with each of them, finally landing on Yvaine as the one with the best options. Using this collection of words I began to build a story and thereby the lyrics. I think it’s pretty obvious that I ended up liking the story I made, it became a sort of Jolene meets Before He Cheats style of song. The song acts as a sort of warning to the ‘new-girl’ without blaming or insulting her (which was an important point to make I think). The song is sympathetic to ‘Yvaine’ whilst also making it clear that she is making a mistake, one that the singer has made previously. The only time the song is even vaguely insulting is with the line ‘sore on the brain’ which was meant more as the singer can’t stop thinking about her, rather than a direct insult, it was important to me to only be rude to the man in the song who is never directly referenced. It’s not only an ‘it-girl’ song but a girls-girl song!
I made an animation of a slowly colour changing spiral (which took forever) and then added the lyrics, the timing of which took a while. This was the making of my lyric video, which is linked above. I chose pink hair for the cover art because I too had pink hair at the time, the posing and expression of the girl in the art is meant to be apprehensive and mysterious as if she is considering whether to turn back or to continue on in the direction she was headed. A.K.A the girl in the cover art is meant to be Yvaine herself, with a little hint to me in there! Funnily enough my cover art so far has consisted of one purple haired girl, a picture of me with pink hair and a drawing of a girl with pink hair – despite the fact that I’m primarily known for having blue hair, maybe next time!
What’s your favourite ‘It-Girl’ song?
If you live in North London and need a producer, Will Jackson has my highest compliments:
